    Certing a Pontiac

I will be upholding the Pontiac camp this year or next year with the RA IV T/A. I have not decided yet which. We have to get the car finished in time for the fall race first and certing second. Though Dan and I dyno'd the motor together and have done all the building of the car so I have been under his strict care. And for good measure he brought Bob and Linden to cool my jets at the dyno.

One of the Glasgo's (John I believe) was going to cert the '69 RA IV last year but for a last minute snafu.

Casey my poor T/A is slow enough without you perpetuating Dan's mistake on its time! For the record it went an almost equally slow time of 13.504 @ the 103.65 listed. Poor girl needs all the help she can get. How would you like to be a small cubed fatty? Or is that me?

About the boring of motors making a difference. If you view my compression post you do not get a lot of power from the small increase in compression due to bore. Secondly of the LEGAL motors we have dyno'd you are getting around .85 hp per cubic inch to 1.1 hp per cubic inch depending on the motor. So if you over bore your 383 by +.030 you add about 5 cubic inches. So with what we have seen you would get somewhere near 5 hp. Additionally as bore spreads so must your flame front, which in turn reduces your efficeincy.

    Rob,
I think you are being too hard on the banana boat. My thinking is that your car is voluptious, like Pam Anderson. Mine, on the other hand is more like Anne Nicole before the diet! :puzzled:

Hello - Been out a while.
My LS6 car does have the right intake , NHRA is the one who f--d up.
3963569* intake is the square port low rise aluminum that came on my car and every LS6 and L78 in 70.... I don't know where the heck a 474 came from . Every 70 square port I've ever seen , has a 569. When I showed up for certification the sheet they had printed off NHRA.com showed 474- But the sheet I printed off 2 yeaRS AGO SHOWED 569.
My carb was told to be ok by Dan Jensen. ( same CFM ,SAME carb ,air horn stamped different)
My DZ (LS6) carb suffered from porosity and was a pain in my butt. Another
reason to be scared of E-BAY ! So this one went on to cure the irregular idle problem. So if some one wants a #'s matching LS6 carb let me know you can deal with it.

Thanks for the clarification, Tim. No problem on my end. 780cfm is 780cfm no matter what the airhorn is stamped.

    3967474

Just did a search and the 396474 is a 71 Vette 425 hp intake......
3963569 is the ONLY intake for a 70 square port motor.

    :moonu:

No problem Ken - How'd the Vette come out??

We'll be certifying the Ramrod this year. I'm hoping we will have to. :Brow:

BTW, there was only one application of the aluminum W350 intake and that's the 1970 like Casey's car. I, too, don't know why they renumbered it for service use in 1974. I do know they sold a lot more of them than cars were ever made.

The Vette came out great. It is now Nassau blue (original color) and even has the correct hood on it. It will be making its debut at the Martin race. I am told that Martin hooks really good. Who knows, might be a record 60ft time in there somewhere.

I noticed some of the regulars from Michigan and Ohio are not on the list of racers for this race.

I need to offer a bit of clarification. I did certify the convertible in 2001 and it has ran a best of 13.18 at the PSMCDR. It weighed 3750 with me in it. In 2004 I had a hardtop car. White with stripes. The convertible is retired from the track unless the hardtop breaks. The 12.63 was the hardtop in 2004. I will most likely need to certify it in the near future.

    Thanks for the info Tim.

I was really scratching my head how you got certified like that. Makes sense now.

(And now you know I don't know any Chebbie casting numbers. )

If they start trying to put specs and controls on the weight of the cars, I think we should handicap for "jockey" weight like they do in horse racing!

My 69 GTO was scheduled for certification last fall, but a couple last minute problems kept me from making it,barely made the race, much less be there on Tuesday! It is all legit, and will easily pass, including factory cam(melling spc-8).Just as well i did not certify,i could not get it in the 12,s anyway. I would not waste my time certifying,if i could not go 12,s. I think the reason that you dont see any Pontiacs certify,is because its hard to get them to go faster than 12.8 and certify. The little 400,s will run all kinds of speed, but wont et with all the 440,s,and 455,s.While i expect all the big motor cars to run fast, its the 350,s that cert, and run the quick et,s,that impress me! :TU:

Well, far be it from me to twist words :puzzled: but I think there are a couple of ways to read that quote. First, that John is unaware of the two Firebird R/A II cars :Do No: , or that he believes they are suspect :eek2: . Now don't get defensive John -- you can wax poetic, but it's still spelled "cheater!" :pp

I think Tool is New England slang for friend.

Used in a sentence: I heard Teddy Kennedy say that John Kerry was the biggest tool in the Senate..........
