All, I am new to this Buick site which happens to be very well done!
I have bought and found a red 1971 Buick GS Stage 1,4 speed car, verified the numbers to the best of my ability but wanted to see if anyone knew this car. It has been in storage for many years but still runs great and looks pretty decent. Vin can definitely be seen from under the car behind the PS Pump, numbers are also very visible on trans. There is no AC

I think you have to have a minimum number of posts before uploading photos to the site. So you'll want to participate in some threads, since I don't think there's a test posting forum to get the posts in.

Small aluminum tag on differential cover usually means it has positraction. Paint code 55 is coronet gold poly. There was no paint code 57 for 71 Skylark.

    75 = Fire Red

There are no numbers that will tell you if it is a stage 1 for a 71 and there is no external paperwork so far. Look over the gas tank and under the dash on the driver's side for your paperwork with the car.

Thr acc codes on the cowl tag will say if it was a 4 speed. Partial VIN is stamped on the passenger side of the Muncie.

    Jim,
There are no acc codes on the cowl tag for 71 Flint cars.

    Peter,

Just post some nonsense comments several times in this thread to get up to a 10 post count and then post your pics. That is how you beat the system.

    Nice find on the car!

    1) Get a picture of the vin on the block (that will verify it is the original 455).
    2) Get a pict of the vin on the trans (that will verify it is the orginal 4 speed).
    3) Get a pict of the distributor numbers (that will verify if it is a stage 1 dist).
    4) Drop the gas tank to look for the build sheet (that can verify stage 1).
    Look here: http://www.stage1registry.com/stage1info.html
    That will help you...

Potential 1 of the 9 71 stage 1 conv 4 speed cars made. By the way, there is only ONE of these 9 documented. Good luck!

Dan, I have pictures of almost all that you refer to in your post. The vin is on the block, on Trans but how does the cowl tag break down?
I can send you some pics if you would like to take a look.

    Thanks again

Cowl tag give some general facts like color, conv, top color, interior color, build date. For instance 02A = 1st week in February and 155 is Pearl White interior. Also 75A is Fire Red with white top.:beers2:

You can look for the Fisher Body Final Sheet, usually up under the dash above the steering column, but it will not tell you if it is a stage 1 or not.:3gears:

I got the picts and could view them in my hotmail, but I cannot view them after I saved them. WTF?

You can also look in the glove box for the protect-o-plate.
