Thanks everyone. Wasn’t going to mention this… but during my last rehab I had befriended a lot of guys there. How could you not when a person spends 90 days (120 days for me) with 18 plus other guys. Anyway Matt, who was there during my time, and we became somewhat close. Super nice, clean cut, caring, just a nice all around normal dude. Did his 90 days. He was home three days and I guess his family didn’t hear from him. So they sent the authorities to do a welfare check since none of his family lived close by. And yea, you probably know where this is going… they found him deceased.
He literally drank himself to death.
    This **** is real.

Sorry to hear about the loss of your friend Matt. A friend of mine met the same fate, not good. Matt will be looking out for you.

    It sure is..
Alot of alcoholics and addicts when they relapse after being sober for a while believe they can go back to using the same amount of drugs or booze when they were heavily active.
I think I heard it once called a tiger inside you getting angrier with each day sober.. Your friend Matt probably tried to fill the 90 day void or hungry tiger in those 3 days:(
I'm sure you have heard this all.. keep us posted Guy.

When you are sober (or maybe just "dry"), the addiction stays busy. Waiting outside the door, patiently doing pushups and getting stronger and more powerful ,hoping that you will relapse. Then ,when you think you can have that "just one"....BAM! Off to the races!

    Guy,

My father was killed in the late 50s shortly after his dragster crashed at Paradise Mesa dragstrip at the big end.

It took my mother 40 years to finally kill herself from drinking.

So, every person that fights the fight and lives another day without giving in to all that pushes or pulls them to drink, is celebrated by me.

You are not only fighting for you, you are fighting for some people's entire life of hope and unrealized dreams.

That is not a burden that you should carry, but a realization that every day you stand and hold your ground, is victory for many.

We pray for you, we appreciate your honesty and your willingness to share.

You are not alone. You have a great number of people that want you to succeed and be happy, and live and enjoy life.

    Thank you, for fighting.

    Your friend.

Thank you again everyone for your continued concern, understanding, help, prayers, and support.
God knows, I wasn't able nor strong enough to get this far on my own. At where I'm at today, there are no urges, nor random thoughts. It is to me, the true serenity that God has granted me.
But am aware this feeling or fact could change, and most likely will change at any moment. I feel I am ready, and more importantly, willing to take that on when it comes.

Woke up this morning, realizing then wanting to update my calendar, as I haven't for about a week or so.
    I am 281 days sober!!!!!

Thank you John and everyone! What you wrote here John reminds me of a quote I came across and love at my last rehab, helped me and just so true in just about everything in life. I have to keep reminding me and not be so hard on myself.
