I think Joel's about right on,3150lbs or so.I weighed the car 4 times at Englishtown, never got the same number twice! Not even close, ranged from 3475 to 3150 with me in it.3150 with me in it would be very nice!
Full frames & old, heavy fiberglass = misleading The original road tests I have here show curb weights (that's minus driver) in the 3400-3500 pound range...I also have an article with a test weight of one L88 'Vette exceeding 3700 pounds. Whatever weight we agree/disagree on, I still say (as does NHRA) that a '68 Hurst/Hemi car is gonna have a couple hundred pounds or so on an L88 'Vette... --------------------- Hillbilly Racing Team "Expert fishermen are master baiters..."
yeah, you have to assume both the L-88 owner and the Hemi Dart owner read the Brewer article in MCR...........
Back to the Hemi //Buick heads up shootout who has the fastest pure stock Buick with slicks? John Chamberlain ? Lassiter? Who else? How about three per side to keep it manageable and go a heads up round robin best two out of three? (We will fill in what cars qualify as we go).
Donny: the '68 Hemi Cudas were right at 3,000 pounds back in the day...and in typical S/S fashion, and due to the non-policing of the SS/A class (or SS/AH, "H" meaning "Hemi", as it will be known next season), they've gotten rediculously lighter over the years... [Sorry for the hijacks, y'all...] --------------------- Hillbilly Racing Team "Expert fishermen are master baiters..."
From Car Life Magazine June 1968: Corvette Coupe, 350, auto, A/C, stereo, pwr. steering, pwr. brakes, pwr. brakes, wheel covers, and telescopic steering wheel. CURB WEIGHT 3375 Corvette Conv., 427-435hp, alum. heads, pwr. steering, pwr. brakes, stereo, 4-speed, wheel covers, telescopic steering. CURB WEIGHT 3285 There is more than one way to go fast. Some want to give credit to only one brand of auto because of something that brand had that was "better" (i.e. tunnel port heads). Now the brand with the "tunnel port heads" can't race down the track without a car body wrapped around the heads. But if the other car is lighter and wins, it WINS.
Good info Tom N...I should've noted above, my L88 weights were for automatic cars, which are *always* considerably heavier than their 4-speed counterparts...unless you're talking about SuperBees! fnb: I give MAJOR props to Ma Mopar for going all out with the '68 Hurst/Hemi cars...NHRA saved room for the answering volley from GM or FoMoCO, but it never came, thus leaving the Hurst/Hemis at the top of the S/S heap. A hillbilly sawmiller to the east of us bought one brand new, and still had it as of last year...was fishing it around to buyers, wish I'd had the cash... --------------------- Hillbilly Racing Team "Where sleeves are optional..."
I stand corrected! Joel, Ok, ok... I stand corrected ! ...the Chrysler did not "LOSE" at 3200 lbs., it "LOST" at 3900-4000 lbs.! So, ok ,how bout you and I race. If I win ,I get the title of your Chrysler... If you win ...you get to tell everyone you raced and beat a Buick! And as so far as all us Buick guys riding on the wins of Lassiter and Gessler... The Buick guys who wanted to, came forward and raced their "slug" Buicks and won. So what does all this mean? Well, I am not sure. It means different things to different people. For me ...It boils down to this...When I was growing up I watched commerical after commerical of Chevy Ford & Chrysler ads on TV and I had a psychological need to not be like everyone else and have an advertisement tell me what I needed or a magazine add telling me what I should buy. So I drove em all and found out for myself that the car that impressed me the most was a Buick. And for sure, for me , its a lot more fun chowin (Thanks PDXMIKE) them in a Buick when they don't expect it to happen (cuz its a Buick) and to see the look on their faces is sometimes priceless. All 64-72 muscle cars are great therapy for keeping me young at heart! GSX Eric :3gears: QUOTE=GTX Joel]WRONG! The 3200 pound Hemi Dart/Barracuda that Dave is refering to is the 68-69 A-body. They are comparible in weight to a Vette. The 70 and later E-body Hemi Cudas (like the one in the shootout) are every bit of 4000 pounds race weight. So who is in for the the 10 car Hemi VS Buick shootout? How about you Eric, what can you bring? :Brow: Or is the entire Buick Club going to continine to hang their hats on the accomplishments of Lassiter and Gessler? I'm going to buy those guys a back back brace, they are carring a heavy load! :beer[/QUOTE]
I thought the NHRA automatically added 200 pounds to the Vette to all the gold chains the driver would wear.......
No ..I don't remember We know how much you want to own a Buick but just can't admit it. Obviously it shows by how much time spent in the V8Buick website ! GSX Eric :3gears:
So...11.96 beats 11.92 ? Oh ya, ya treed him ! Ok, "we'll say" you won technically ! GSX Eric :3gears:
Hemi vs Stage 1 How about this? Why couldn't we have all of the brands send one or two representatives to our Buick Horsepower event at Indy June 28- July 1 and we'll run them ALL off? What better place than Indy in late June at the home of the US Nationals? All we need to do is come up with a format and each club or marque send their best car. Heads up, and Pure Stock or some mods, whatever everyone decides. I'll offer up Indy since I'm in charge of the event. (www.buickhorsepower.com ) What'd ya think? John Chamberlain
Jk Do you means Chevs and, Lord forbid, Fords too? I can see it now here comes an R3 and wipes the field. I would come just to see that.
