Greed is all I can say. Why would ANYONE go over 2 miles deep in a 21 foot DEFECTIVE sub with no seats and no windows and can only escape ON THE SURFACE and the only way to get out is someone on the OUTSIDE to unbolt the hatch???????? They were doomed from the start.
Way too many shortcuts taken in design and safety testing especially when dealing with such an unforgiving environment. Likely they never knew what hit them. Fine one second flat as a CD the next.
That’s what I was thinking yesterday, everyone was talking about their oxygen, I said “I’m sure that thing imploded” Quick for sure, better than suffocation. Yep, more money than brains!
I can respect their sense of adventure. What an unbelievable experience. Was that the sub's first trip that deep?
For these people $250k is like a phone bill for most of us, they are billionaires! If I had that money and was obsessed with going 2.5 miles under the ocean, great! I would tell the designer here’s my $250k, now put 195lbs of bricks in this thing for me. When you get to the bottom take pictures. If and when you return I’ll bring another 250 for the ride.
From what I read yes, and earlier testing showed flaws which the owner admitted he took shortcuts on design and safety “too many safety features” on sub design. It’s not natural for man to be under water let alone over 2 miles down.
This is a classic case of "hindsight is 20-20" The co-owner of the company and designer of the vessel was also the pilot, so at least he went down with the ship. RIP. This vessel was designed and built here in Pacific Northwest (Everett WA). The designer and pilot was a brilliant dude, but alas this type of exploration has casualties. If any of you have ever watched the "smarter every day" series on youtube, that guy has a method that involves bringing in other smart people to tell him what he has done wrong... Two bullets colliding. He details his method in this super cool video.
That IS a cool video, even better that the guy has credentials in firearms and ballistics, and he had brains enough to call in experts on things he wanted critiqued.
Both sad and stupid..... No emergency communication devices on board ? They should of installed a tow hook and a tether ..... One of the guys on board lived 2 towns over from me.....
