A: When fully cured, J-B Weld is completely resistant to water, gasoline, and about every other petroleum product or automotive chemical.

While it doesn't list ethanol, it does say "about every other automotive chemical" I think I'm OK. I'll see if I can E-mail them to be sure.

It would be good to find out. I know the KB Kwik is not very fuel resistant, but I've used the standard product now & then for fuel fill pipe prototypes, including areas of full immersion in E10 and E15 with no issues. I can't comment on long term though, as the few times I used it the tests only lasted a few months at best.

I'm trying to e-mail them through their website, but it keeps telling me that I haven't completely filled out the form, but I have. Don't know, but I suppose I can conduct an experiment by immersing it in E10.:Do No:

I don't think you're going to want to spare the three months of waiting just to see what happens beyond my own tests, but then again, who's to say they haven't changed their formulation in the last couple of years?

    Try giving them a call at (800) 529-3530, M-F 8-5 CST.

I have seen JB Weld soften and come apart on Quadrajet well plugs that I did. It holds up for a while. Maybe email Cliff Ruggles and get some first hand knowledge of JB Weld and gas. Over the years, I have been less accustomed to believing what is written by a company trying to sell a product than in seeing first hand for myself the results. Experience comes at a costly price..

That said, if you're comfortable, then that's all that matters. The more I tried to remember how I did mine, the more I'm leaning toward I used a compression fitting to attach a copper extension - soft copper and a sweeping bend toward the rear to eliminate a 90 degree "corner". I know that the fuel system in that car has performed flawlessly thanks to a 1/2" line and Jim's pump. That pump is AWESOME! Low 11's on drag radials in a convertible street car is almost boring now-a-days. :)

I PM'd Cliff, and he confirmed that JB Weld will not hold up to E10. So what to do now? I will have to remove what I have done, and try your idea Bob. A compression fitting and bendable metal tubing would solve several problems. Wish you could remember exactly what you used Bob. I think the pick up tube is smaller than 1/2".

Sorry that I can't remember what I did. I looked for pictures but I couldn't find any. Seems like I did a sweeping bend with copper, but I can't recall if I used a compression fitting or if I flared to attach it to the sender.

    I've got a 50' roll of bendable 1/2" copper

... and the gas tank is waiting for you

    Thanks Alan,
I started out this morning, and traveled out to Medford to pick up a Push Lok hose tool from Chuck (rack-attack) that might make it easier for me to install the Aeroquip hose on the fittings, thanks Chuck:TU: On the way back, I stopped by Jason (Buick64203), and he was able to carefully remove the JB Weld, and then score the copper elbow, and spread it out a bit. It came right off without too much trouble. Since Jason had a tank available, we test fit the sender in the tank to see how much room we had. (Thanks Jason) I ended up buying a compression elbow. Unless I can figure out something better, I guess that is my best option. I haven't permanently assembled it yet. I think it would be better to attach it after getting the float in the hole.

Very nice! I don't think Jim's pump is going to notice that 90 degree turn! :TU:

    Thanks Bob,
Nice catch. It probably wouldn't have failed for a few months, but even if it fell off, the pick up would still be in the gasoline. I'd rather not take it apart once it's in though.

Glad you went ahead and made the upgrade. One less thing to worry about. Just before the final install, flush the tube with some solvent.

That is Larry's personal Mohel. He is the same Mohel who performed Larry's circumcision at birth.
Look at that unwaivering precision cut, the man has won many awards as one of the top Mohels in the USA.
What dedication and concentration, and look, he's even doing that cut on the sacred Mohel cloth. OYE VEY !!!

Need an award winning cut......just call "Mohels are Us" and ask for Mohel Jason.....he's the best for precision cuts !
