    It's In!!!!

Drove the car up to the Auto Center on Friday. Got there at 3PM, and started stripping the engine down. By 11:00 PM, we had the engine out, and the new 470 in. Got all the header bolts in and tightened down and called it a night. Came back on Saturday at 9PM and started working on it again. Had it running by 3PM, and drove home in very threatening weather. As luck would have it, I got stuck in the worst traffic jam you could imagine, stop and go in hot humid weather. The engine didn't miss a beat. Idled at about 800 RPM in gear, with 11-12" of vacuum. Brakes felt great, oil pressure was great, 60 while cruising, about 26-30 psi while stopped in gear. Still have to install the fuel system. For now, we connected it to the 3/8" line already there. I'd like to thank all my fellow club members who helped me, in no particular order, John Csordas, John Jr., Steve Ruconich, and Carl Rychlik, and all the other guys who stopped by with words of encouragement. You guys are great, I couldn't have done it without you!:TU: Will bring the car back early next week and get that push lok hose, and sender installed.

Click on the picture below for a video of it running.

Congratulations, it been a long haul but worth the wait.
Nice job hustling on the engine swap in 24 hours.
Glad you made it home OK in such conditions. At least you know everything is good in worst case driving.
It will be exciting to see the performance once you finish the rest of the details.
    Best of luck

Sounds so smooth for 600 hp. I bet it just purrs at cruising rpm.
    Perfect Sleeper engine.
Can't wait till you make your first kill. Do you have any victims in mind?

Yes it really is very smooth at my typical cruising RPM (2200-2500 RPM). It doesn't mind the Gear Vendors Overdrive at all. Throttle response is instant, and passing on the highway is literally a toe tweak away:laugh: It is idling a bit high in the video. We didn't have a lot of time as the weather was very threatening (We had 2 twisters touch down in Queens yesterday). I just wanted to get the car home, but of course I got stuck in the worse traffic imaginable. Made it home right before the sky opened up again. I'm not going to really get on it until the full fuel system is in.

Hi Larry, Paul, Mike, Cole, Anthony, tufbuick, Chuck, and V-8 Buick fans of JW super-deluxe assertive engines,

Thanks Larry for sharing your continuing journey to get your engine fully installed and up to "kill duty." You are indeed an inspiration to everyone around here! :TU:

Golly, I am impressed by the idle!! I assumed you would have to make a significant sacrifice to reach 600 horsepower, but indeed, you car will be very street-friendly.

Folks may be terrified of what they hear, but you should be able to run through the quietest nieghborhoods at 25 mph, pick up a quart of milk at the market and come home as if you were driving a "Prissy" (Prius) . . . .

However, when you get to the drag strip . . . then you'll be able to something da' Prissy - can't!! :3gears:

Congrats Larry and thanks to the great JW for some amazing engine wizardry on this engine!! :TU:

    Cheers, Edouard :beer

Any chance of tossing it on a chassis dyno after you get it back together and have some back to back fresh numbers to compare VS the engine dyno?

Cecil County will be my Chassis Dyno:grin: One look at the trap speed will tell me all I need to know. I don't particularly care for Chassis Dynos. Don't trust them.
