I got a little anxious and just pulled the glass out myself. It was easy because the urethane was so soft. What a hot mess though! I got it mostly cleaned up. Gonna hit it with a brass wire wheel tomorrow and continue preparing the channel. Ok, we need to start putting parts back on the car instead of taking them off!
looks like a safelite job back in the day hackers glue everything thats not todays urethane that gets like a rock you should get some touch up and hit those spots
The red 72 X was LACED with urethane. Nasty mess. Somewhere I have a photo of the front windshield out, sitting in front of the car…with black snot stringing out front the glass to the windshield frame. Ugh
Not much going on this week on 508.. The rear window channel is clean. The second coat of rust inhibitor has been applied and the third and final coat will applied tomorrow. Radiator is back from the shop. Hung up on parts.. Waiting on my package tray, the jute underlay, some por-15, Radiator paint, clips for the rear window molding...once I get everything it should go back together pretty quickly.
Rainy, miserable day here on long Island. I thought I'd tackle a small project I could bring into the house and do while I watch TV. So...I took the sunvisors out and did a mini clean up on them. The visors themselves were dirty and dingy looking. The chrome mounts needed a good cleaning and polishing too. I used the same procedure as the belts- hot water, laundry detergent and a soft brush. They really come out great! Look like brand new. I even lubricated the mounts with some WD40.
Mice just love cars that don't move! Nothing like the smell of mouse whiz in a car . I csnt wait to steam clean the carpets and use some of that nature's remedy urine remover. I have to say though, it smells 100 times better after I removed the corpse
Ok, just placed an order with CARS. I have everything officially on order. I'm here watching TV and ordering parts online..lol
Another small item knocked off the list. The eggshells were refinished. The only reason I did was that they were already repainted. Came out pretty good
Were there any rust holes in the rear window chanel? By the pic it looks like a touch of rust at the edge of the yellow. Maybe visible with the stainless trim on. Are you going to fix it? Than match the paint? Looking at all your body pics there's really no major rust I see. Great work. Keep posting.
Yep, there are three small holes in the channel. And there are a couple pin holes in the left lower corner that are visible with the moldings on. In the past, I've used some duraglass to fill the holes using some careful sanding. But I saw thst por-15 has a filler and seam sealer. Basically por-15 paint in the consistency of toothpaste. I have some on order and was going to try using it to fill the small holes and fill in some of the pits. Im really trying to conserve as much as I can. The jury is still out of touching up or blowing in any yellow
And there is verrrry little rust on this car. The only major rust I found was behind the rubber block when I took the rear bumper off. It's very well preserved. I would imagine that the car was garaged most, if not all of its life and didn't see much, if any winters
Jason, What I have done in the past, depending on how large the holes are, I just solder them. You have to be up on your soldering skills & to make the solder flows the metal HAS to be absolutely/positively clean. Once soldered correctly it will NEVER rust. Just my thoughts. Tom T.
I wound up painting the reveal under the rear window. It was a toss up weather to paint it or leave it. The factory did such a piss poor job. Plus the crappy paint would look even worse against the new package tray. I used acrylic lacquer. And yes, the overspray is original
