Im not an expert on all the intricaces of guns. I do understand that the AR-15 causes way more damage than other guns. Why do you think the mass murders choose them over other options?

Correct! An JHP will stop and not go through.

In war, an FMJ like the 223 round is meant to wound, not kill. Also easier to treat in the field. More humane in war.

That is also one of Cooper's 4 golden rules- know your target AND what's behind it!

Think of it as the small block chevy of guns. Why does everyone hot rod 350 chevies rather than Buicks? Are thry better? No. Because they're more prolific

They weren't always. Remember what happened after Reagan got shot? That kind of weapon was made illegal. Then when the time came to reinstate that law, the republicans didn't do squat and the law went away.

BTW, just because something was prolific doesnt make it right. By that logic, I assume you were a fan when tan Toyota Camrys ruled the automotive world?

More than a mini 14? The .223/5.56 round is available in many types of firearms. Not more or less deadly in an AR. That rifle is the boogie man.

Im just answering your question. Reagan got shot with a 22 caliber snub nose revolver. 22 revolvers were never made illegal after that. What we did have however was the Brady bill which required a 5 day waiting time and instituted the NICS check. They did eventually drop the waiting period but the NICS check is still in place .

Just as an FYI, lying on the federal background check is a serious felony. On average, 40k people lie on the form and get denied. I think on average less than 10 people get prosecuted yearly.

You can get an AR in many different calibers up to .50 caliber beowulf in case your hunting dinosaurs

Reagan was shot with a .22 caliber Rohm RG14 hand gun with plain old .22 ammo. It did a shitload more damage inside his body than an AR round. It just ping ponged inside him ..

    What a odd choice...

So that goes back to 1968 when the US passed the gun control act thst set up FFLs and outlawed the inportation of small handguns. The one victim of that law was that Walther could not import its PPK....the James Bond gun and coincidentally the gun that Hitler killed himself with. So Walther lisenced Interarms to manufacture the PPK inside the US. No one said they cant make it in the US, the US said they couldn't import it! So interarms had an aerospace company in Alabama manufacture it in stainless. Mine is one of those...

Well it seems I got my memories mixed up. It wasn't after the Reagan shooting that the assult rifle ban went into effect. I admit I was wrong about that. But it did happen in 1993/1994. It was allowed to expire in 2004.

I dont understand your comment about the lying.

When you purchase a firearm in the US, you have to fill out a federal background check form called a NICS check or a "4473". I've filled out dozens.....anyway its a felony to lie on the form. A felony is a serious crime. Roughly 40k people a year try and buy a gun and lie on the form. Out of 40k people that commit that crime, less than 10...thats 10 people who get prosecuted

As far as the assault weapons ban which sunsetted after 10 years, there have been many studies about it and all have found that it had minimal effect. Keep in mind columbine happened during the ban.

The point is as JW commented, you can't legislate evil. Someone bent on causing mass casualties will get ahold of illegal weapons. "When guns are outlawed, only outlaws will have guns" . One of the major issues is a lack of enforcement. In NYC, gun crimes and rape are essentially "not prosecutable" by the DA. So....

I had a 22 rifle in 1980, you could put 18 bullets in the tube, once it was loaded you had plenty to unload, and a 22 bullet was deadly so what is the point only idiots pull triggers to kill people not guns

You cant legislate evil, but you can try to limit what weapons they have to choose from. And the AR-15 is brutal.

Well, we have the largest number of weapons in the world.

We have the largest prison population of the world.

All our :freedom" is not working. Why are Americans so lawless? The civilized world doesn't have the problem us freedom screamers do. You don't see monthly shooting reported in those countries. The US has been listed as a dangerous place to visit due to gun violence.
Doing nothing hasn't worked so far. How many more millions of guns need to be added to our country before we are completely free?

If a country like Russia tried to invade us like Ukraine you gun haters will be thanking the guys that have those AR's and such Russia wouldn't make it to PA. guaranteed.
They wouldn't take over your town now would they? NOPE!

Maybe if we took those killers out back and executed them for killing your loved one the prisons would be less full instead of letting them live there forever. But then again we want to save those bastards too. Maybe this will stop some killing, think so?

OK, I need to respond to this. This is not personal Fox's Den, but this is a common misconception with hyper pro gun people. Against a well trained military force, the armed populace would not do well at all. Maybe eventually they would become a force to be reconed with. But in the beginning they would get their butts beat big time. Why? Good militaries train all the time. The armed populace, at the very best LARPs. But LARPing is not real training. So there would be some massive butt kicking by the well trained military.

I don't where you got that tumbling myth but the AR-15 chambered in a .223 or 5.56NATO does the exact same thing as a Ruger Mini-14 in the same round. A 30-06 deer rifle will do so much more damage than the AR-15 and has a much greater range.

Semi-automatic weapons have been around for well over a century. The Colt 1911 was first made in 1911. The first publicly available semiauto was in 1894.

It isn't the guns that are the problems. One third of (81 million) Americans own over 393 million firearms. If we were the problem, you'd know it.

Get the criminals to obey gun laws instead of trying to find ways that inconvenience law-abiding citizens. Then, we can talk.

Also, concealed carry permit holders are a very law-abiding group. Other than suicide, the rate of mass shootings by CCW citizens is lower than the rest of the population.
