Marc why are people wrong to like things you may not like.
Do you like Buicks? So do I but not everyone does. People like archery, knives, swords, axes, darts, billiards, golf, boats, fishing, photography, planes, snowmobiles, skiing, snowboarding, fireworks and many other things that are unique to the individual. No big deal.
We use firearms for protection, yes. We also do competitive shooting, even with my flintlocks. We also use our firearms to feed our families. So proficiency is important.
As a few have said lots of uneducated comments going on in this thread. Hopefully people stay civil as I hope people get a better understanding of things.

Something that was told to me years ago was true then as now......
Guns only kill people when you hit them with it.
It takes ammunition, a firearm, and most importantly a person to aim and fire the combination

according to the FBI. Rifles – the category that includes guns sometimes referred to as “assault weapons” – were involved in 3% of firearm murders. Shotguns were involved in 1%. The remainder of gun homicides and non-negligent manslaughters (36%) involved other kinds of firearms or those classified as “type not stated.”

ALL Rifles 3% , Which translates to about 1% for a Armalite sporting rifle that’s been sold since 1958. But the cnn crowd would have you believe it’s 100%.

Yeah, but we aren't losing dozens of school children to people with sword, darts, and ski boats.

More importantly we should ban people from putting big wheels on their classic muscle cars, those stupid halo headlights, and painting their chrome trim...

Change the guns to Buick parts and you are just starting to scratch the surface of the hoarding/collecting that goes on with some of us here:eek::D.

Why don't you guys that hate the guns move to those countries that do not have them, oh like this country too much? Then learn how to deal with it, all this talk and what about the mental part of it. You have to have a problem if you feel you need to go out and shoot up a bunch of people.

Don't need a gun you can do this at a parade with a car now what take the cars out if you are mental you are mental. Take the AR15 away and it will be something else

did you know if your mother does not pay attention to you when you are born that baby feels unsafe and will attach to whoever pays attention to them at that point? Then you know what happens if they do not feel loved? From that moment on they grow up to feel unloved and start to do things that are not nice because they as babies were not loved.
do a little reading and you will see I read this book in school.

Yeah we have a great military but how many of you all would be at the front lines like the Ukraine people did.
What if a nuke took out the east coast and that military was taken out then what, on your way to PA.
Who do you think joins the military? what type of person where they, from what party joins the most.

Can you all see this is going to take us out way before climate change does. This simple argument has everyone going nuts.

I do have a Buick did I get transferred to Yellow Bullet by mistake?

You miss the point of my post although it is to be expected.... I was referencing the point about people collecting and building unique collections of things that not all of us here would collect. In this country that is allowed.
Again guns don't kill people but a combination of gun, ammunition, and 1 or more humans.
More people are generally killed by being beaten with hammers and other objects including hands and feet than with rifles and shotguns, including the AR platform.

Not a damn word about that guy that run down those people with a car on Christmas at that parade do you know why? I do.

I have a 350 Buick that I decided to put in a solid lifter cam does anyone care? no one cars for a 350 but since alll you gurus are here you can give me some tips to look for or correct installation I like Buick and like to be different.
    I really don't need a gun I have a car.

Yes. If another country can get past the defenses of the greatest military in the world, they know they will have to deal with a heavily armed civilian population. 70 million hunters and many other armed individuals pose a large enough threat that any invasion force that would have to consider what boots on the ground would face in a conventional war.

Let's label it a further deterrence Steve.

    Fair?

No. The whole idea is simply preposterous. Defending against a zombie apocalypse or space aliens is equally likely.

Japan didn't invade mainland US because the leadership knew we had millions of guns. I believe the quote was, “You cannot invade the mainland United States. There would be a rifle behind each blade of grass.”

As to those that don't understand our love of freedoms, the freedom of speech and the right to bear arms, look no further than China where the CCP will imprison you for speaking your mind and no citizens have guns of any kind. They run roughshod over the peasants, literally locking them into buildings, welding the doors shut. Hong Kong has come under the thumb of mainland China and now they have lost all of their rights they used to enjoy.

If diversity is our strength as I keep hearing preached to me from "our betters" then they need to accept "other" diversity as well. Our history shows that freedom isn't cheap and it isn't easy.

You ignore recent history that many of us have lived through. Afghanistan defeated BOTH superpowers with a ragtag bunch of fighters. Vietnam defeated a far superior force through attrition and guerilla warfare.

And most recently, Ukraine is hitting back against the Russian invader. They may be losing but they are making them pay dearly for every inch.

This is asymmetric warfare at its finest. The insurgents, the real ones, not the DC inquisition mock-u-drama going on, look just like the regular citizens and the military. Many served in the military and know the tactics.

Short of nuking our own nation, it will be a bloody civil war the likes of which have never been seen.

Okay, I can see where I was wrong in thinking a discussion could occur. I'm not going to reply to that simply because I am not going to get dragged down a rabbit hole where 2 pages of discussion on extraterrestrials and zoombies gets posted.

Fine. Let's not worry about zombies or aliens.

Prepping for nuclear war? Pretty out there, but there is always a possibility it will happen.

Prepping for a land invasion? Entirely absurd. Zero possibility.

C'mon, if almost anyone walked past a house with 7 snarling vicious dogs and the owner said they were there to protect against Russian or Chinese troops just in case, almost anyone would think he was completely nuts.

Russian or Chinese, maybe. A smart man would say they are for defense of home and hearth and leave it at that but the dogs don't know or care what uniform, if any, the aggressor wears.
