As Jason said, they're like small block Chevys.... or more appropriately, they're like Lego's.... you can build them any way you want, in various calibers, with a multitude of options and accessories. You can buy them fully assembled, or buy the parts separately or in kits. I'd say that is the appeal.... not that they are more damaging than other guns. One could buy a Glock pistol and use a 30 round magazine and have the same capacity as an AR-15.
Outlawing the AR-15 isn't going to end the problem, they'll just use something else.

Are you thinking of a current example or are you talking about the American revolution?

I believe the reference was to a war in the colonies? Vietnam maybe. Possibly Afghanistan?

Seems pretty simple to me and I think someone loosely touched on it earlier in this thread: people kill people, guns don't. Those with malicious intent will absolutely find a way. I'll put that intent into perspective for those of you who have a lot to say but aren't privy to the actual goings on of the justice system.

I've been a court officer for 16 years. Some of you may know it as a bailiff, a deputy or Bull from Night Court. Nonetheless, I've worked in the district court and also superior court, where the higher penalty crimes are prosecuted. Gun crimes, murders, major drug crimes, rape, etc.

In terms of intent - which was my reason I'm replying - we'll go with child pornography. Cleary a nails on the chalkboard topic but very real. I've sat through trials that would make the layperson's stomach do backflips. Absolutely horrific stuff that no one should ever be subjected to - on any level. The feds monitor this stuff like you absolutely would NOT believe but the perpetrators incessantly continue to make and share this stuff callously. It's abhorrent.

My point? Well, when there's a will, there's a way and gun control - as mentioned earlier - isn't going to stop someone from procuring an AR15 to carry out their sick manifesto. If you think it is, it might be time to crawl out from under that rock you're living under and take a good look around. We live in a very disturbed world. You can either take measures or get left behind.

Agreed, if there is a will there is a way. But why make it easy for those who want to do evil?

Walter I'll put the ladies group up against some of these trained military you speak of.
They have been shooting for about 4 months twice a month for 3 hrs each training session. I put up 2 examples of their capabilities. These are women shooting 9mm short barrel handguns.
My wife shot a new to her 22 pistol tonight at a womans competition night. This picture is a target set at 50 feet. The target circles are standard 3 inch.
She can defend me anytime. She's better with a rifle though:D 20220719_221711.jpg
It is about practicing and learning.

"Bunch of farmers with muskets defeat bunch of soldiers with same muskets" (which isn't even a realistic description in the slightest) does not logically lead to "bunch of guys with ARs and rifles defeat bunch of soldiers with APCs, grenade launchers, tanks, etc." and anyone trying to be the least bit intellectually honest about the issue knows it.
    Funny? Sure.
    Valid? Not in the least.

    Lol!
I give up...My point about the US being a gun culture obviously went way over most people's heads. Point proven; the US will never get away from slaughtering each other with guns. It's too much a part of everyday life. I had to take a course to know some of what you all are arguing about, types of ammo, sizes and calibres. Amazing the minute facts and trivia, and probably some misinformation going on here is incredible.
People here are actually proud of being able to handle a gun; - and they practice with targets shaped like people, and of course the intent is all noble, - to shoot an intruder someone trying to hurt them.
    Unreal...
Sorry fellas, I may be just another dumb Canuck who doesn't know anything but I've handled my fair share of guns. I don't see what the attraction to them are. They are a tool, and that's it.
People on here arguing about what punches a bigger hole into you or who invented the AR-15 and arguing semantics and stats about weapons that are designed to kill.
And that's the only thing a gun is good for; - killing.
And that's all they end up getting used for , - killing.
And the manufacturers are making a......... killing, and getting away with what essentially amounts to being an accomplice to every murder or killing a gun does.

And until people get it into their heads that killing is either a crime or a sin, this will go on, and more innocents will die.

Oh sure, some will come back and retort that none of their guns ever killed anyone...that may be true, but if your house gets cleaned out they guaranteed will, and that's pretty much statistically a given.

I though this was a site about Buicks, and not how or what kills people most effectively.

You familiar with the concept of tactics? You can have all kinds of people who are good shots. But history is littered with examples of the 'better army' getting their butts beat.

Ultimately its about leadership. Does the armed populace have leaders in the beginning? I would say no. It would be chaos. Hence my opinion on the outcome.

Uh, we are not a relatively tiny country with a limited military bordering a far larger country with a massive military.
This is just another red herring argument used to distract from logical discourse.

Do you honestly think Canada or Mexico or Russia have been deterred from invading the US because private citizens have guns? Does anyone? Really?

…And the Model 1903, in .32 cal, and the 1908 in .380 were patented in ‘03 and ‘08. Both semi auto handguns.

Yet somehow, gun control has worked in New Zealand, Australia, the UK, Norway, Japan, Singapore, most any developed nation where it has been instituted, and it has lost completely kept said "sickos" from carrying out such deeds. Mass shootings in particular have been all but eliminated and shooting deaths in general are a tiny fraction of what they are here.

Saying the grass is orange, the sun revolves around the earth, the earth is flat, and gun control doesn't work are all examples of simply stating what one wishes to be true without accepting the cold hard facts.

You guys are losing grip on the reason i posted this thread.......a gun was used to save lives and protect innocent people.......that is the reason why almost all of us law abiding owners have them.

And yes.....i do have one in my Buick when i am driving it ;)

There is no such thing as a “ gun show loophole”!!!!!!!
The same laws apply at a gun show as they do anywhere in the state where the gun show is held.

Passing laws that the people don’t agree with and won’t comply with is folly. Even if the US were to repeal 2A, you still have 4A and 5A which greatly limit the government’s ability to find out who owns what. Plus, 14A means the government would be on the hook for fair market value of 396 million guns, so congress would have to authorize half a trillion to buy them. So, that ain’t gonna happen.
