Cool i think your right i get things mixed up once in awhile good work on your car.Keep the pics coming. Jamie
:TU: Thanks, Got the rear bars welded in today, will take pics later. I have to go to town to get some stuff now.
Just a friendly piece of advice. Make sure that you are not using weld to fill in large gaps on your cage. This will cause a very weak joint. Some of the welds look kinda cold. Local tech guys probably wont care but some of the tracks where the big dogs run might. Above and beyond the tech guys is the most important thing. The cage is the one thing that needs to stay together if something goes wrong on the track. It could save your life.
Good points Todd, and thank you. Tyler has hammered the loose weld from the joints and will grind to find any possible weak points. We also re-cut the sections to get at flat as possible to the bar and to the floor pieces, so we could reduce any gap size. Safety of the piece is what we are after, not the looks.
Thank you for your concern. I hammered on the welds, and broke off all of the loose stuff. It seems like I got it welded on and its not going anywhere. There are a few gaps that I need to fix, but I ran out of welding wire. I definatly do not want anything to happen to this car, but if something does, the work I am doing is going to keep me safe, I take great care on all of my work especially when it is on something that will save my life when something goes wrong.
For a little security you might try cutting some triangular 1/4" steel gussets to weld in the corners where the tubing meets together. Love the build but I noticed one thing my car has that your doesnt...rust, I envy you texas folk.ou:
Thats a good idea. Just to rienforce the rollbar to the bar going across? Do you have any pictures of how to do this? Not much rust down here, but the interior sure does get pretty nasty. I need to find a car from up north to get door panels!
Got the passenger seat mounted. I am waiting for my dad to help me reassemble the steering column so that I can mount my drivers seat. I am also waiting to get a new welder, so I can finish off my cage, my other one is broken I think...
Dont have any actual pictures but this could be a start. Just cut them to fit where ever you feel they will help like where the sidebars meet the roll bar and dash bar etc. A lil extra insurance to keep the bars from breaking apart god forbid something did happen cant be bad. Are you running flux core wire in that welder? Id rather put some interior in then do bodywork anyday.
I did quite a bit of work this weekend. Installed the rear firewall. Mounted the fuel cell. And I rebuilt the steering column (got rid of the column shift) and took out the steering wheel lock, and the horn stuff. I also got my drivers side and passenger side seat mounted. Lol, I must have been day-dreaming about when it is going to be finished. ray:
I got the 10-point stuff today! I got the top welded into place, and the driver's side door bar. I will take pictures tomorrow, after I get it completed.
NOOOOO!!!!! CATS!!!!! KILL EM!! KILL EM!! Oh. Sorry. Allergies. Very nice project.:TU: Have you started on the engine at all?
I have 2 blocks ready to go to the machine shop. But other than that no I have not started doing engine work. That will be done after I have a rolling chassis. Which will be soon, I hope. ray: My cats are starting to make me angry. I am about to have to do something about it rofl.
