Progress has slowed and the pace of grass growing has accelerated Did get the console restored and ready for install soon....... More tomorrow....hopefully ray: Peace WildBill
Installed the Gear Vendors Overdrive controller unit and associated wiring along with the Autometer Oil Pressure and Water temp gauges....... Added the signal generator and speedo cable extension and decided that running the cables for the generator and the OD engage soleniod from the controller would work best to route them along the speedo cable. First attempt with tie-wraps looked like SHE-ITE  Next attempt with a real good 3M electrial tape p Still had to use the tie-wrap where it was too tight to wrap..... The best place to mount the controller with easy access turned out to be tie-wrapped to the main wiring harness right above the fuse block....the unit has a dedicated ground so no problems not bolting it down. Also close to the exit point for the sig gen/solenoid cables and dash control unit :beer Here is a picture with the GV unit and gauges installed under the dash....... More tomorrow....... Peace WildBill
I was'nt too crazy about another foot switch(think dimmer) on the floor for the manual control of the overdrive. I basically will have the OD in "off mode" and then engage it when i get out on the highway. Having to engage OD from a switch mounted in the console storage compartment is not a big hassle for me. Get the cordless drill and get statrted :Brow: Make a hole just big enough to mount the supplied non-floor mount switch....solder on some short wires and a connector for the new cable extension because the supplied one is not long enough to reach the console....mount the switch and the console is now drop-in ready......... Here's the extension........ All connections in this car are soldered and insulated with shrink tubing.....only BUTTheads use BUTTsplices...... Cable all tied in with shifter ran thru the gears to assure no interference with operation....... More tomorrow....... Peace WildBill
It's off to the junkyard on monday morning.......gonna find me a nice e-brake handle boot to cover the hole for the shifter downrod....the one in my Grand Am looks like it would work perfect.....i'll look for one of those :Brow: Then i can finish the interior. Peace WildBill
Cool Bill, I like your attention to detail on the OD wiring. Too bad its not a 65, there are extra spots in the center dash that would work really cool- like where the power antenna switch/cv top/defroster switches go.. Ted
After a trip to the junkyard and a $5 bill.......this boot off a 5-speed Cavalier will work perfect. The interior will be completed very soon.p Peace WildBill
After a dye job to match the carpets the boot was installed and the front carpet put in it's previous position looking like NEW.....nothing fits like original :TU: Started to install the METRO door weatherstrips.......use a good adhesive all the way around and punch out all the holes so that the weatherstrip fasteners go in easily.....painting can close them down and you might also have remains from the old weatherstrip's fasteners........ Almost finished the brake lines today........ More tomorrow...... Peace WildBill
Yes, are you gonna be at Norwalk ? I will bring your battery and mirror.....the window cranks i do not have. Peace WildBill
The brake lines are plumbed up and ready to fill and bleed. Master cylinder got a fresh coat of paint....... Peace WildBill
Yes, both events are still on......BPG Nats end of July and the re-scheduled GSCA Nats mid-october........ In the meantime.......i just re-sprayed the wheel centers and had the BFG 275-60's for the rear mounted and balanced and put on the car.....maybe a little TOO understated ? Mounted the first year offer AM-FM Stereo radio's rear channel amplifier using the two left most glovebox door hinge screws to mount unit.....looks great and it's VERY RARE p p p Thanks to Sid and Belva Meyer for passing this almost perfect NOS rear bumper on to me for this project.....:TU: :TU: :TU: Bumper is ready to hang tomorrow....... .........more soon........ Peace WildBill
WildBill, all I have too say is, the car is looking great. I am really liking your wheel and tire choice too. Looks Bad A$$!! It was good to see you and Davis at Norwalk even though it was for a short time. Oh, and my distributor finally showed up. Now I have to get motivated and put the Stage car back together and hopefully have it dialed in for the BPG event. Later
Tim......we was looking for you to come and hang with us in the motel parking lot on saturday night like the past few years.I told the aliens to save the light show for the BPG because you were not there :Brow: It was good seeing on sunday......see ya at the BPG :beer Peace WildBill
I know I missed out on Saturday. No fear though, I will be at the BPG with the car and I believe Pops is coming along again this year. I better find a hotel room and get it bookedou:
Tim.....look forward to seeing you and your Dad. :TU: Hung the rear bumper and need to trim the console a little more to make it fit. Some bumper pictures...... Super Ted Nagel delived a 67 radiator to use as a core saturday and Davis came up aslo......it was my birthday so we went out to eat and then went to a cruise-in at the local longtime Buick dealer H.E. McGonigal(where Topcat was sold new). I drove TOPCAT.....Davis was co-pilot ....Ted and his lady were in the backseat........ I had to smile a bit when i pulled out on the highway and started thru the gears.....Ted muttered from the backseat..." i gotta get me a WILDcat !"....... That comment.... coming from a fellow WOT member that has several rare 4-speed Wildcats.......made my B-day !!! More tomorrow......it's supposed to rain so i will get crack'in on the car. Peace WildBill
