I was angling for Smiley and Sister Mary Sunshine as drivers....... p Or maybe Pepe' the Donkey and Binky the Clown.... I mean as long as we have less respect for Lyndon and Mark......
I don't know about the Buick owner, but Mark seems to have no problems with his driving ability. o No:
No disrespect here... I meant no disrespect,I dont know either driver,I'm sure they are both quite capable drivers.I just thought you might take the driver advantage(if one exists) out of the race.
if you really want to make it interesting, find the worst drivers from last years race......... that takes the driver out too...... although I am doubting any 'hot shoe' or 'old shoe' or 'cold shoe' is going to be willing to pay to glue Mark's Hemi or Lyndon's Stage 1 back together after a boo boo getting into 2nd gear
Do we have a complex??? o No: I believe the prior statement about putting the whip to them is correct. When personal pride is a factor, someone is willing to lean harder on their own equipment than when they are sub shoe and have to pay to put humpty dumpty back together again. :Smarty:
If you are scared to push on the motor than you should not even be in the race. Its funny how these cars Buicks and Chryslers can be beat on all their lives and when they enter a race like this someone might start to worry about the motor coming apart. If your worried about the motor coming apart then leave the car on the trailer and push it off at another event like a OEM car show.GM and Chrysler took the time to put the best engineering into these motors so just go out and drive it like you stole it.What ever happened to just having fun at the strip WIN,LOSS or DRAW, but no one likes the last two.
This is well known in these circles......especially with folks like RDL driving his car six hours racing all weekend and then driving six hours home. Or SmallHurst driving his HO from Missouri, 14 or so hours one way as I recall, racing all weekend then driving home. Their point is avoiding trouble in Someone Elses car. :beer
RDL you are correct with Tony. Not only has my Judge only gone a 12.442 as a best but it did it the Wednesday after last falls race. I was still at Stanton but she does not count. Additionally if I remember this correctly Tony had gone something like a 12.29 away from Stanton. I have been lucky enough to have the quickest RA IV to date but not Pontiac and untill my Judge loses 500 lbs. so I am dead even in weight with Tony's RA II car it likely will never happen. No doubt that all the posts on my car not being optimal are correct. All the B bodies I have driven work much better than the E bodies I have run. E bodies do not seem to hook up and get down the track as well, then throw a few additional options at them and it just gets worse. I tried the driver item on Dan a while ago. I suggested we let Bob K. drive the car as he is about 80 +/- lbs. lighter than me. Dan said no sub drivers. I think I can get her down the track well but I will never lose all that weight till I am in a pine box. As we all know weight equals ET in our game. Maybe myself and the car need a diet. Mark
Well, actually weight equals MPH. Regardless of which of the two cars claims to be heavier (man, you guys are making excuses already!), remember that many of the Pure Stock participants intentionally add weight in an attempt to improve traction. I know the ass-wipe option weight is not optimally located over the right rear tire, but it's still helping traction a little. Last time I checked, the winner is the first to the finish line, not the guy with the top MPH. These cars will likely be matched closely enough that the winner will be the one with 1) the best reaction time, and 2) the best traction.
Maybe you guys should take the option of leaving the asswipes at home and run your own race, your own car, your own way and have fun with your musclecars :TU: The shootout will be historic either outcome :3gears:
Hmmmmm.....my car went 102.57 with me driving. ........Let's see, 285-100, carry the 1, divide by square root of orange, add the grape...... :eek2: ...and #3, Brian, and probably most important, the best 60 foot time. That is probably most tricky part of Pure Stock racing on these tires. You can always launch easy, get a good light and not spin. Try it without a bog, though. Sometimes a little tire slippage doesn't hurt you that bad as long as they don't go up in smoke. These repro bias ply tires still pull really hard when they spin a little.
Hey Casey, maybe that can happen at some future date with my friend's '66 Skylark GS post car. 401"+.030" = 406.8" with carbs. & a distributor using 40+ year old technology. We do try & go to some of the Buick vs. whatever meets that we can here in the North East. E-Town, Cecil County, LeBonon Valley, Island, Attco, etc. Just an old "401" NailHead in a non cutup car that can be driven to cruise nights, still street legal, can idle at 800RPM's with 17" of vacuum. Not tubbed, all on car are bolt-ons, except for a roll bar which is added for safety. Un-bolt all the bolt-ons & have a restored stocker again. What say????
I'm just glad they will let me bring the Merc to the September Buick vs Hemi shootout.... Or will they? uzzled:
Just on the sidelines watching it all go down. :TU: Jim http://board.moparts.org/ubbthreads/showflat.php?Cat=0&Number=2476702&an=0&page=5#Post2476702
Wow! If you read this Moparts thread not knowing anyone involved you would think Mark can't find his way to the track, his car couldn't fall out of a tree and Lyndon morphed into Lassiter (sp?) with a ringer Buick :error: Maybe it's good a couple of non dyed in the wool "Mopar" or "Buick" people are doing this. :TU:
I agree Brian!!!!! Checks and balances I guess, you watch all the web sites to stay on top of it and keep your reeputation from being dragged through the mud :eek2: Public perception is usually taken as truth ou:
ou: ou: ou: After reading the posts on Moparts. I feel bad that the poor (underdog) Hemi is being picked on by the big Bully Buick. Sort of like David and Goliath. ou: The heavy Hemi should get at least a 2 car length lead. It has to carry around extra heavy parts, like those heavy power robbing 300+cfm heads with big valves and 5/16" dia. stems, and the 2nd 4 bbl carb and aluminum intake and log-style exhaust manifolds. The little Buick probably weighs less than 3400lb's, Buicks were always know to be lightweight and have minimal sound deadening and luxury appointments. Heck the Buick has got to win, It will be running: 1- Electra (Hi-Flow) cylinder head castings with trick 3/8 dia. valve stems 2- Super-stock/dyno tuned cast iron Electra low-low rise intake manifold 3- Rare and exotic Q-Jet carb 4- And on top of that it will also be running the Electra cast iron headers. Its just not fair I tell you! ou: What a hoot!
