    Guys,
I've been following this thread with some amusement, and thought I'd go ahead and add my .02 cents.....

As far as the complaint department goes: get real! these cars are now all at least 36 years old!! How many of them survived without a rebuild that needed an overbore, shaved decks, etc??? The guys with the museum pieces won't race them, so be happy you have a few "car guys" willing to risk their machinery in a race that won't answer any questions. Let them have fun and not risk their reputations-just their running gear.

Hemi vs. Stage 1? This didn't become an issue way back when...Jones and Benisek, Reynolds Buick, and many others ran very Hot Buicks-all of them hopped up; none of them bone stock. Pretty much everyone else ran Hemis, SOHC's, SBC's and the occasional other brand-also NOT stock.

Fair race, Buick vs Hemi?: Buicks ran great in street trim, but Hemis didn't. They, like the Boss 429, were detuned for the street. The reason you don't find high mileage hemis and Boss '9's is because they were out of their element in traffic;they were also flogged to death by Sox and Martin wannabes. Personally, when I was still "active," I feared the 440 Six Pack far more than the Hemi. Want to know why? Because they were quicker on the street, and their owners would actually run them. The Hemi owners were content to sit on the Hemi's reputation in the parking lot.

Weight advantage? Buicks are full frame cars, usually carrying deluxe interiors, A/C, PS, PB, and a full tissue dispenser. Why do you think all of these Buick nuts are ditching their factory A/C? I guess they are trying to turn a silk purse into a sow's ear. Perhaps they just plain don't like A/C, but that doesn't explain why their new car has it. They must think they will make their car a competitor at the track-something it was NOT designed for.

Sub-drivers? Puh-LLEEAASSE!! I am thankful Ronnie Sox isn't around to hear this crapola. Considering that the outcome of this race won't change the weather, or the dispute, makes the use of a "hot shoe" a laughable idea, especially if he misses a shift and blows up someone else's motor.

The bottom line is this: Let these guys willing to bring their cars enjoy the experience, without taunting, complaints, whining, or excuses. Back at the stoplight in "the day" we didn't say "hey, does your car have power robbing options, an experienced driver, totally stock unrebuilt motor, and all the other hooey I've been reading here. No, if anything was said at all, it was this: "Wanna run 'em?" Sometimes you got the bear, and sometimes it got you.

Both of these guys are winners in my eyes. Dan :3gears:

Dan is the "Man" and hit the "nail" on the head!!
    No pun intended! LOL

I always kinda figured that Staged Engines should be in its own class as compared to HEmi anyways. I mean isn't a Hemi kinda like cheating?? LOL
I was taught to believe that anyways..hahah
    The dubious nature of lea :3gears: :3gears: :3gears: :3gears: :3gears: :3gears: :3gears: :3gears: :3gears: :3gears: :3gears: :3gears: :3gears: rned behavior lmfao...

    Line'em up boys!!!
    Winner stays !!
    Loser pays!!!
    LOL
Remember Buick performance was sought after.... Mopar's was stumbled upon!!

My buddies '69 Hemi Road Grader is original down to the exhaust.

Well the engine has been freshened.....and the gear changed.

If his new exhaust shows up the original is coming off (it's seen better days)

I guess it might not be a good candidate. :Do No:

Brian now that is a tough hemi and funny. That is a race I would take with mine except I know I could never get the dig on him... Forget it.

The race is kind of on but not in the same manner. Lynden did not get the S1 done in time and had to back out. Bruno stepped in with his virgin '67 427 Vette for the race. It will be run after the PS drags are done on Saturday.

Obviously not the old S1 vs. Hemi fued but a chance for Bruno and I to get out to old low mile cars and race them without having to explain why they are so slow compared to the hard running PS tuned cars.

I am sure it will be fun and hopefully not all the craziness the S1/Hemi item was stirring up.

I also want to thank Bruno for risking his prized piece for nothing more than a grin. He kept me motivated to see what my car would do. Otherwise I likely would have not brought it out to play and concentrated on another car.

The big grin is worth large to me!
...and thanks to you Mark for the invitation.

That ol' 390hp feels kinda spunky to me........hopefully won't let down the bowtie fans!

Had it out for a pass on the highway to make sure it didn't go limp at top end. It works and it doesn't overheat.WOOOOOHHOOOOOO!!!!!!

    Lets get at it!
