So are the center bolts also exhaust manifold (the washers look to be the correct style)?? They don't have the correct small "tip" like I have always seen....any idea why they are shaped like that anyway?? The seal was a lucky guess.... later Tim
The short ones have the same GM number and the same built on lock washers. I will have to look at an old set to see if the short ones ever had a narrow tip.
In the next set ( another day) you will see them black. I spent days hand sanding them so they are smoother than NOS. I have the undeside of the hood yet to go. Then it's basically reassembly time which is not nearly the task of refinishing, finding and /or repairing parts.
Looks great Jim!! :TU: Thanks for posting these. It's an inspiriation and a guide for completing mine. Regards, Eric
Jim,are you going to reundercoat the inside of the inner fenders? Or maybe I will find out the undercoating on them is an option. Who knows, but was wondering anyhow.
Undercoating is a no no for resto jobs. They are now painted with black epoxy on urethane primer. Those are the before pics.
If you are going to drive it though, undercoating sure cuts down on the noise from flying rocks, etc.... Lookin awesome!! Tim
I understand those are the before pics with primer and what not, but I am restoring my 72 Lark, and when I took apart my front end there was undercoating on the inside of the inner fender wells. So if you are restoring a car to originality why would the undercoating not be put back on? I am lost on this one.
Because the factory did not install that undercoating. It was an aftermarket add-on, either at the dealer or by another shop like Ziebart, etc. There was no undercoating from the factory on the front wheelwells, however there was undercoating applied at the factory to the rear wheel houses, probably as a sound deadening (?sp) measure.
Alright so I learned my thing for the day, I did not know that, I am in the process of taking the undercoating off to put new stuff on, but now that I know that I will just sand them down and repaint them. Thanks for your help Brad, :beer I appreciate it.
Do you intend to drive this car? It is so perfect! If I put all that effort into my car I'd be hesitant to drive it. What do you intend to do with it when it's finished? I want to be clear, this is not a put down. I think the work you're doing is amazing and the results spectacular. :eek2:
There are several places Zone , etc. But you can see the layouts from Quanta at www.gastanks.com. Some like the 70 Skylark are sold sans filler neck as they are not remade.
I think spiral shocks are sold by Parts Place and a couple other vendors. Cost is not cheap, I believe they are $50-60 each.
