Cole has got the market cornered with an exclusive on that look and he is still holding out on me. Without it how can you expect the rest of us to compete in the slock class?

My supply of slock is heavily guarded....

Only cars that come out of this shop will be in the slock class..

The rest of you wanabees will have to be in the "slock appearing" class..

I can see the emails already>> "What is slock, and how do I get some"

    Jim,

Pedals look good, Not sure if you were aware that they were not completely painted originally.

(NOTE: This pedal assy is from a 442)

Yup, Henry's pedals look just like that.. brake pedal is the same way on an auto car... and also Jim, looks like you could use some more sound deadener..

Here is a pic of Henry's car, and the carpet had never been out of it..

I am sure I am going to have to hand cut stuff like this, your not going to find the right stuff in a kit. I suspect the Chevelle and the GTO did not have deadener on top of the tunnel like our Buicks did, and I am sure that is what these deadner kits are based off of.

The dead smoke, matches, pencil and paper all fell out from behind the heater ducts. It was like a scavenger hunt..

And no, the matches wouldn't work.. we tried..

The drive tunnel deadner did come with the Ames kit which in the paperwork was also intended for a skylark. I have just not laid it all in. It even has perferations on the nonpaper side for the different application contours. I am just about ready for underlay and carpet.

Yes I knew that but its absence had caused so much rust that after I blasted them I decided to paint the whole since it does not show. I may just mask off the pedals now to put the strip of my interpretation of bare metal paint at the top end. I have to make the same kind of decision on say the driveshaft.

Scott is that a safety start switch on the 442 pedals? Ours is missing but I think it may mount like that too?

Also the emergency brake warning switch is missing . It must mount on the e brake. Do you have a pic?

If you go back to page 4 of this posting, there are two photos about half down the page. They show the work you did on painting the metal dash board. Stripped naked like it is, I can still identify all but one of the openings in the metal work. The one that has me befuddled is the large (I would estimate 9" wide x 6-7" tall) hole immediately above the opening for the radio.

On a car with A/C, the central vent would exit the dash through what I would estimate to be the left edge of this hole. But the A/C vent is only 2x3. So, the question is:

What is that large hole for?

My assumption is that there are bits and pieces of the A/C system behind the dress face of the dash board and this large hole provides access to them.

Follow on question: I am going to assume that this same hole exists in the metal whether or not the car was destined for A/C. If that is so (most likely as Buick would hardly fabricate an entirely different dash complex for a car without A/C), would it be possible to custom fabricate a gauge panel to fit that large opening?
I am thinking of building something along that lines, but have no idea what is behind the dress face that may/may not interfere with running of the various lines and power lines for the 4 or 5 or 6 gauges I think would fit there.

I know this is long and may not be worded the best, but I think you get the idea. I know others on the board are using the winter to spruce up various aspects of their projects and may have access to their strip dash, but your is the only car with that particular aspect exposed for easy access on the BB.

TIA -- and I L-O-V-E the way your GSX is coming together. Thanx for sharing

    Craig

It is a secret formula finish JW is using exclusively on Cole's motor --although he may now go with it on the entire car. I think this originated when Cole decided he did not want some of the non Buick locals to know JW had rebuilt and repainted his engine, engine compartment and exterior sheet metal. Being an out of the box thinker he wanted to create a 200-300K mile, sleeper look to at least the engine and engine compartment. So he requested JW mix up some slock to spray it down after completion to get rid of the freshly done, new look finish. My guess is we are talking about a proprietary mix of old murky radiator water and anti freeze along with some road gime and burnt oil. They will not say exactly.

If I am on the same page with you, I think access is correct.

However since I believe this area is behind the dash pad I would not think you would want to use this area for gauges as it would require a cut in the dash pad itself. I would try to use the driver's A piller like GN cars so often do.

Thanks for the response, Jim. (I wasn't really expecting one!!)
I earn my own slock the honest way, and wear it proudly, thank you!

You guys are killing me here......! :Dou:

But just FYI, I had JW sign a legal binding contract to keep the exact formulation of that custom slock finish a mystery.....even to me!

    buickman70 I pirated this pic!!!

Jim, in post #106 I noticed the old heater core nipples sticking out of the firewall. I hope you are just using it for a mockup. I would hate to see you go thru all this fun and then have a heater core make a mess.

It is new core not an old one.
