    John,
Hopefully the mat you have does not look exactly like Jason's. Look close at the picture of Tim's mat in post#14 on the other thread in the bench forum,(I'm going to try to attach the picture?) that is the correct 70-72 Skylark GS driver side front mat. Jason's is different. Can you post a picture of your mat if you have'nt sent it out yet?

Aside from the yellowish Tri Shield emblem, the CARS mats were quite nice. Would those be a good specimen for Legendary?

If I remember correctly those CARS repro's did not have the flap (looked more like the style found in the bigger cars.)

yes, the CARS mats had the smaller of the two flaps that go under the gas pedal. The CARS floor mats were exact copies of John's picture in post #4 on the other floor mat thread . They even have the same cutting instructions on the back of the flap. They fit my GS perfectly. As far as which one is correct, that Im nor sure of. I do have a set of the CARS mats if John is interested. They are almost new.

    Jason,

Can you please give me a number to call you.

If you have any pics in the meantime of what you got from CARS that would be a great help also.

My drivers mat I am considering sending is in the other post with my Electra in the background.

Has the flap like others we have seen but with the "scooped out" area at the top to straddle the steering column.

Actually in much better condition than picture also.

Yours may be the ones to go with though Jason :TU:

I have no originals to supply, but if these ever get made I am in for a set. I'm easy, black. Need to cover up the "original" carpet I bought from Alan Faircloth. (Long story, PM for details.)

Thanks for the tip Rich, one of my other buddies (Tim) tipped me off also on these.

Have to see how the auction goes, but they are already going quickly out of my price range :ball:

    Ante up

If Legendary needs NOS set like this, we could ante up and buy them...
I will donate $20.00 to the project.
Hopefully the ones you have already worked so hard to get will work just fine.
Let me know if I can help.

    Good Work!

Well, Legendary will make a ton of money on the matts since they will be the only company making them, I'd hope they would buy them? They should have the pockets for them :Do No:

Too rich for my blood, "Hey honey, I just spent the house payment on some rubber mats.", Not a good idea :spank:

You're telling me the problem is that there isn't a "template" set out there anyone can provide? I find that to be quite amazing. I think I have a very nice set in my 68GS that is the same as the 68-72 unless I'm wrong.

What's the real hold up on this? I'd take three or four more sets if they were available. I'd especially like a dark green set for my 71GS455 Convertible project.

Ive been following this thread and I have some concerns that have been bothering me that I need to air out....

If I understand this correctly, Legendary is going make these repros using the same contruction and material as the ones they make currently.
I dont want this to become another Parts Place fiasco we had with the 70 shrouds that were "almost" correct. The general sentiment I got was that a company should do it right or not at all.
My main concern on this deal is that these mats are going to fall short. From what I understand, they are going to be made out of urethane, not rubber and may be made without the little nubs on the backside. Without those nubs, the mat will float around under foot. Unless Im mistaken, I believe they pour the liquid plastic material in a mold. Once cooled its removed. A method that will not duplicate the original mat construction. Guys, if they dont do this correctly, they will only be catering to the people that currently buy thier aftermarket mats. The resto guys and concours people will not accept them.
As another board member told me, people may be assuming more authenticity than Legendary may be prepared to produce.
Legendary's sales are going to be contingent on the authenticity of these mats.

    It's all good

    Jason,

Thanks for some very good points and always appreciate your comments (Thanks also for offering your NOS CARS mats,of course they want orig. GM).

In regards to the nubs or "tits" on the back I have told them that we DO want those for the complete package of fit AND function.

Little misunderstanding on the "urethane" material from our phone conversation.

The only thing made out of urethane was the urethane master copy so they'd have that in stock for a permanent pattern.

The mats themselves will be very high quality materials tested to -30 F .
Also all U.S. made materials, as well as, manufactured in N.Y. according to the owner of Legendary.

I am sure you are familar with the quality of their products and with paying a little more for the backing tits these should be a dead ringer for our original mats.

I just got the color charts the other day, and although they will be generic there are some out of the 14 available that look pretty close to original shades if my memory serves correctly (blues, greens, reds, and black of course).

Any how urethan composition of actual mats to be sold? No

Backing tits for fit and function? Yes

Thanks for airing that out and hopefully this time tomorrow night I will have a very nice and complete set of used black 70-72 mats from a good friend :beer .

    I'll keep ya'll posted :TU:

Yes, exactly Mike "Whats the real hold up on this? " I've given up trying to get help anymore, it is taking us longer, but a few very good people have supplied a LOTof help and we are learning, and working on this together.

They have been a pleasure to work with, Thank You again for everyone who is posting here, PM ing, and emailing pics and info, we are getting there!

Might still have mats in time for Santa, if we get lucky!

    :beer

I hope we will have the templates today :TU:
